This issue isnt a full emergency but need resolved ASAP…
I was only refilling the corner overflow on my latest re-build (Marineland 150g tall)
….. I was testing the bulkheads for leaks but
within minutes the thing exploded out into the empty tank…
I’ve order black silicone and it should be arriving today, but my question is should I even bother?

I hate the aesthetics and space wasting of that thing and wonder if it’s even necessary or what’s it’s actual purpose?
Could I just get a check valve for the return 3/4 stack and seal/solvent the outflow stack all the way up?
is it (white vertical pvc) any worse off aesthetically vs. that black plastic corner thing? (I have a white background)
Any suggestions considered/appreciated

If you don't replace the overflow compartment wall, how will you prevent fish from being sucked into the overflow pvc pipe?

The wall is a guard for fish and inverts and also a chamber for mulm to prevent release into the sump
Now is the time to reinforce it, than have it happen when you have livestock planted and would warrant need to pull them all

it has one of those large strainers, I attached a pic
The over flow gives you a better surface skimming.
I was thinking of that and looking at those eShopps slim boxes (I got the medium or small I think on my 60g)
but see pic, that’s a 150 and drilling thick glass? ewwww
You could cut pvc as flush as possible and pvc cap the bulkheads and then drill and install a rear overflow
ewww gives me shivers, funny thing I just drilled like 10 tanks and gosh oh mighty holding that bit on that thick glass …I have doubts ha ha

yeah glass on silicone on plastic is sorta iffy, as it is I got a whole tube of the black stuff coming same day Amazon, and will have plenty of silicone…. I hate to reinstall the darn ugly thing but it’s leaning that way… appreciate it sincerely
edit add: yes, it didn’t occur to me that just this strainer would be inadequate for surface skimming and could also get inadvertently clogged more so than a weir/strainer thing
