semilarvartus butterfly reef safe?

All butterflys are hit or miss. I have had a few in the past and some do fine and others go straight for the corals.

i am also going to have a nice zoa collection to worry about.

Would not risk anything other than a pyramid butterfly with zoas. Also, all 6 of my dwarf angels will decimate zoas (but only nip at other corals). There's something about zoas most fish can't seem to resist.

semi won't work, they like all sorts of polyps. For a yellow fish, that won't [likely] jump, how about a canary damsel (since you're willing to spend some $ on the semi :) )?

I am willing to spend a few $. I do have a black tang and considered a joculator angel

Then I think a canary damsel would be a really great choice. They are stunning in person.
