...owners who know a thing or two about their fish, because I have an issue.
I’ve been successful with fresh water for some years and really wanted salt water so we tried a few weeks ago and all has been well up until a few days ago: My oscellaris recently began to look like he’s “corroding” (for lack of better words.) I’ve tried to read and find information on what it could be, but his symptoms aren’t consistent with one particular dx/with what I’ve read.
The current salinity is about 37-38 ppt (I’ve been slowly lowering each Day to account for the heat/absorption; it’s warm here at about 85*). Appetite and energy is normal, no change from when I first got him about 3 weeks ago.

Please help! Frederick thank you in advance!

Welcome to Reef2Reef, HiTash!

It's curious to me that the lesions (which may well be Brooklynella) seem to follow the clown's lateral line. Do clownfish ever come up with Head & Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE)?

We've got a terrific write-up on Brook by our own, very knowledgeable Humblefish, and you can find it here: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/brooklynella.247938/#post-2913287

By the way - your clownfish isn't an ocellaris - Frederick is a maroon clown, Premnas biaculeatus - he'll get a lot bigger than an ocellaris, and likely become a bit more aggressive.

Thank you all for the reply’s and knowledge-I definitely appreciate it!I will look into the appropriate steps to get Fred better!!

Did you cycle your tank before adding your Maroon Clown? Have you tested your water parameters besides salinity? Was your Maroon Clown healthy at the pet shop or showed some signs of health issues? Does it have labored breathing, lethargic swimming? Limiting stress, water changes and treatment can prove beneficial.

To be honest, No. The salt mix (Kent’s) said it provided all the minerals, etc needed so I just added the purified water with it. He was quite active at the shop and still is but in hindsight, near his dorsal area, it looked a bit off and probably was the beginning of Brooklynella.

So I need additional clarification because I’m getting conflicting directions on the recommended meds: I could only find rid-ich plus and the comments mentioned to do a bath/dip but on the botttle, it says to add to a tank. So my question is do I add it to our QT tank and let him swim in it? Or do a dip then place him in a QT sans medication?

Sorry, ultra noob here getting conflicting recommendations.

Brook is a surface parasite, and 60 minutes in either one of those chemicals should eradicate all traces of it.

He is speaking here of Rid-Ich's formalin content. Do keep in mind that formalin is a recognized carcinogen, and handle the stuff accordingly.
