Sending Banggai Cardinals

Hey everyone,

wanted to see if anyone had any input on the sex of my Banggai cardinal? I have 2 of them and 1 of them I am for sure is a male, has 2 vents, but the other one I don’t seem to see any. Attached is a photo right after feeding.

Looks female to me… It’s just got that look you know

But in all seriousness I’d say it’s a female. Especially if the two don’t really mind eachother.

In my experience it really helps to have a bright background (like white paper) to see the contrast, as the vent will appear somewhat darker. A picture that clear against a white background will probably show you what you need.

I agree I would guess that's a female based on not being able to clearly see a vent while being an adult size, but I'm also only 50% accurate in sexing adults in my own tank, so take it with a grain of salt.

Worth mentioning that if they're already in the same tank, are fully grown, and tolerate each other.... that's a female. It took two adult males all of about a minute from first seeing each other to chasing around in my tank, so if they get along, they are opposite sex.

They’ve been in the tank for about 6 months together. I did have 3 but lost 1 within a few weeks of getting them. Person at the LFS said they have a tough time in acclimation. Now I’m wondering if it was just a victim of another male.
