Seneye Temp

So I'm finally got the Seneye working (technically their support fixed it) so I'm seeing the temp for the first time. (No slides)

Little confused that it's low (it may be possible). I was under the impression that my other thermometer read 80ish. So this is 2-4.5 off. So I'm wondering how accurate this is out of the box or if I need/can calibrate it.

My other confusion is the near instant 2deg drop. Since this is my first time with a moniter it would be my first time seeing it also

anyone else have any thing to chime in with? The probe has been in the water the whole time and I didnt add water this morning either (no ATO). Total system size is probably 13 gallons.

I use a seneye, it can be calibrated and if you go to there website it will walk you through it

Does the seneye work from online server or do they require downloading something on your device? My work laptop is a PC but I can't download anything.

I got the seneye last week and its still sitting in the box.. I have a Ipad, macbook pro, and android phone so it pains me to have to buy a windows tablet with a USB port. I cant' find anything less than $100. The amazon tablets are the best priced but again android. UHHH

Sorry to hear that. I think you need to download their app. I had to buy a windows computer to do that as well ($120 intel 2 compute stick. Runs on USB power).

I wonder.. can you instal the app on a flash drive and run it from there? I know windows 10 wouldn't let me, but when we use to have an XP I thought you could run apps from a flash drive.

What's the overall opinion on the Function of Seneye System was looking at the Reef Model..
Is it functional?
How well do you think it compares?
And would you buy a second time/model?

This might be a great solution for using my work laptop - alot of security here but its worth a try. however, flash drive will only work on a windows tablet or PC. Let see

If you had to take your work laptop to work at least you could plug the thing into a USB charger and when you plug it back into the computer it's suppose to sync up the earlier data too. You just wouldn't alerts if it was offline.

My mother in law gave me her 3 year old PC which she told me to keep. I am very happy with this purchase. Initially I was going to use as just a PAR meter but this thing is amazing. I mean this monitors main elements and has proven great for me cycle. The hardest part is using their interface to set up but after that your using IOS, android, and their app is very simple.

Wow my temperature swings a ton in comparison! I have a 100watt heater in about 13 gallons too. Badically 5 deg difference

So far I like mine. I got it used because I didn't want to pay full price. I wouldn't want a second one. I don't regret getting this one either. The only down side is they basically make you pay a subscription through buying slides. I'm not sure if they cut the readings when your slide expires or not but you have to enter in the slide code. It's nice because I did get to test my par. Also I can see my constant pH which I already know is low. Eye opener on my temp swings.... it's good to know soon will be summer and I'm upgrading to a 58g DT so I'll see how bad the swing is between the chiller and the heater (after seeing my 10 gallon hit over 80F when the house temp is 77 or under makes me think that chiller will be running when the house hits 80).

I got mine from BRS. You have to buy them as a 3 pack. Each piece is $11. Each one is good for a month. So basically, just that, $11/month.

That looks like a pretty big temp swing. I would think that for a 13g tank, you would want a heater somewhere closer to 15-25W; perhaps up to 50W, but no more than that. Having a 100W heater is likely causing the element to overheat the water before it can shut itself off. A smaller heater will ramp up the temperature more slowly, which will give the built-in on/off cycle the time it needs. In an ideal world, I'd use two 15W heaters - one set one degree higher than the other (ex; for a desired temp of 79F - one at 78F, the other at 79F). This setup allows for not only a backup should one heater fail in the off, but also a more gentle ramp up as you approach your target temp.

Each slide lasts 30 days and costs about $11. You may be able to push a slide longer and still get usable readings (I've gone a few days over several times), but I wouldn't really suggest using that as a cost savings measure as you're just putting your tank at risk.

I have 2 (150 Watt) heating 130 gallons. I think 10o watt on the 13 gallons is the issue you probably would be better off with a 20 watt heater. Regardless, I am surprised the swings are that large. I swear by Eheim jager heaters they are very good long term and have only 1-2Degree swing in temperature.

I think the $11/month slide is a great especially as you never have to calibrate it. Initially I thought you needed 1 slide for PH and 1 for Ammonia and was not going to replace them. However, its not bad considering I get constant PH and temperature readings and alerts

I am still looking for a good tablet that I can have displayed on the the side of the stand at all times. Currently my laptop is sitting next to the tank on the floor. Yikes

Thanks for the info. I may have a smaller heater sitting somewhere (50watt) I can try and trade it out.

I just ordered the seneye reef monitor mostly for the par/lux/kelvin blah blah.. And because DFS gave me 25% off. Am i required to have a subscription just for that? I don't plan on using the rest of its abilities.

No; those values are all read directly from the device.

Note that you don't pay anything for the account. The only cost after purchase is in the slides (which are optional, really).
