Hey guys,
I am a Junior at The South Plantation High School Environmental Science Magnet program of South Florida. Next year will be my Senior year here and every senior is required to do a senior project in order to graduate. I have decided that i want my senior project to be growing a reef! I am somewhat familiar with reef growth and such, but i need someone that can give me a rundown on all that i would need to grow a soft coral reef(preferably someone that is an expert in this area of science). My plan is to have the reef up and running before the end of this school year so i have plenty of time to finish it before my senior syposium. I am looking to have a diverse ecosystem within my tank that resembles some of South Floridas Reefs. If any of you could please help point me in the right direction and mentor me(maybe even donate some things to my project) it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You might want to try contacting Ken Nedimyer of the Coral Restoration Foundation located in FLA. They might be able to give you some direction in what you could be looking at in a relatively small tank in a classroom. They current are farming corals for the purpose of re-establishing the reefs and have done some very interesting research. I don't believe they could offer any equipment because they themselves are looking for donations as well. But I do believe they might be a good starting point to get ideas of what you could look at for a senior project. HERE is their website. Good luck.
