I currently have a 29 gallon reef tank with a 10 gallon sump that is running great. All parameters are very stable and all the livestock are growing and happy. I quickly realized that this tank is simply not big enough (which I'm sure we all have done). I pulled the trigger on a 180 gallon and am in the process of building a large sump. I am also adding a custom 20 gallon frag tank to the system to run off of the 180's sump. On top of all that, I am eventually wanting to cut my current 29 gallon reef into the same sump as the frag tank and 180. My question is this.... Should I cycle the new system separately and cut in my 29 gallon after or can I cut in the 29 at the beginning and let it somewhat seed the 180 and frag tank. Oh I almost forgot, in the 180 gallon, I am going to be using dead, dry rock and also dry sand to prevent any hitchhikers.
