I have a 260 ltr dt and a 70 ltr sump with skimmer, uv light and phosphate reactor.

1 red fire fish goby
1 cleaner shrimp

At present I am using a toothbrush on the live rock and siphoning the sand every 3 days to keep it under control .

Algae seems to appear more at night and if left will grow up the rocks, I have already tried ultra life red slime stain remover, but at the end of the treatment 90 percent of the algae was still there ro/di water used tds 5 coming out of machine.
I changed salt about 3 months ago to Red Sea coral pro
I think my problems are related to the water looking at how the algae grows in the dt. Silicates have been mentioned as a cause but I don't yet have a test kit. Could these be the cause, if so how did they get in there and how do I get rid of them. Any thoughts, and thanks in advance.

Looks like diatoms
Are you using rodi?

UV was very effective for me in getting rid of this. Are you certain your bulb is still functional?

Using tap water with salt mix is also notorious for this sort of thing. Make sure you don't do that. ;)
