Serpent sea star is falling apart - will he make it?

Hey y'all, so this is a picture of my serpent star, who has started falling apart after the stress of a couple of moves. He is still moving around and reacting to food, but is also starting to drop pieces of itself in the tank.

Is there any possibility of this guy is going to survive, or should I just yank him out of the tank and it humanely now?
I know they regenerate, but this looks really unlikely!

I don't know much about them but wow, sure looks rough! We will get someone over to help answer your question.

I would pull him. Once the central disk is decaying it's a lost cause IMO.

I found that starfish really do not do well in newer system. Not enough of the right algae for them to eat.

Mine was like that and regened... Only has half a mouth though he might have a chance.

I target feed him regularly. But, he was one of the many animals in our tank that ended up at the lfs when our tank cracked and exploded in the living room. He did really well before that. He was at the lfs for about a month, before we were able to bring him home. He had lost a leg in the time being but has been very active and still eating regularly. I suspect, a hermit crab got at his stump and chewed it. The crab is no longer in the tank, but probably too late.

Sea Star didn't make it

Such a bummer that he lived through the fish tank flood but didn't survive this.

Is it safe to assume, based on your user name, that you are the proud owner of not 1, but two very expensive hobbies? We have a 2014 Street Glide Special.
