Setting PAR on tank

I’m revising my 120G (24” deep”) and taking the time to redo my light settings with a PAR meter. I was thinking of setting the lights so that the lowest setting on my sandbed was around 50-75 PAR and then the lighting for the rest of the tank would start from there.

OR do I set my lights for the strongest PAR (200-250?) on my highest rocks so I don’t burn out corals?

This really depends on what corals you keep. Ideally you should be able to both, but if not then make the call based off of the corals you have and where they are placed.

Thanks @Spare time. I get what you’re saying. My concern is that if I get around 75 on the sand, then my tank at shallower depths becomes too high. Or vice versa. Is it better to give too much light at shallow depths or too low at the sandbed?
