Setting up a 220G SPS

hi all,

I am in the process of gathering everything to set up my new 220G tank. Here is some of the equipment I have decided on...thoughts? Also how long should I wait to start acclimating SPS corals into the new setup.

Equipment...
Eshoppes R300 sump
Gyre xf250 two pumps with controller
AI hydra 52 LED lights
Marine land 220 tank
Custom stand and canopy
Reef octopus 200int skimmer
Syncra 9.0 return pump
Neptune ATO

Thoughts??

I think it sounds great. Didn't even realize Syncra had return pumps past like the 4.0 but I love my 2.0!

Depending on your overflow plans, you could get a lower flow return option.

The synced 9.0 has a controller that allows lower flow or higher flow when or if needed so went that route so if I need more flow I can achieve it. Will post pics once I get it set up!

Dave...it's getting there! The water got a little cloudy again adding the dr. Tims. 48 mark of that's will be 9:30 tonight so I will be putting the filter sock back in and I assume that'll help start cleaning it up again.

You're lookin' mighty fine there!

My own 220 has a similar array of equipment, but most of mine is a price-point (or ten...) closer to the bottom of the budget scale. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes!

Looking good. Im working to set up my 220 sps tank too and also going with the xf250 gyres. My biggest difference will be on lighting, Im going with a Giesemann Spectra.

Are you setting up a calcium reactor?

No calcium reactor yet. Next big add will be apex system. I love the gyres. Amazing.

I would suggest a bigger skimmer. Skimmer ratings are usually based on a light load. Bulk Reef Supply has estimates of their notion of how big a tank and how heavy of a load that skimmers can handle.

It is often handy to have a skimmer that is rated about 50% over your final estimated load.

I have a 300 gallon tank with a 500 gallon skimmer and a light bio load. I carbon dose for nutrient transport. Having an over capacity along with filter socks keeps the water nice and clear.

A few corals are in and things are progressing nicely. Here's an attachment of my plump Lobos!! Tangs go in in about 10 days. Final list of tangs is blue hippo, sailfin, blonde naso, chocolate, white tail kole!!

That’s awesome! Looks great!!! Since you haven’t done a water change may I ask what you are dosing or doing to not do water changes? Are you using any certain methods like API essentials, Triton, etc? Or are you planning to eventually do water changes?
