I am setting up a 2nd tank to be a display refugium, for the several benefits to the aquarium.

I have a 29 gallon tank i plan on setting up, From everything i have seen the best way to do this is to make it higher then my current aquarium. so the overflow from the 29 flows into the DT.

Other option i have a little more expensive would be to put a 2nd return pump in my sump that goes to my fuge. with the overflow for that going back into the sump. A little more expensive because i have to buy a 2nd pump but easier and i dont have to get a absurdly tall stand to make up for the difference.

Anyway first step is drilling the tank. I bulkheads and a drill bit but what size holes should i make? My DT is already quite loud so i dont want to add to that so I'm assuming i need 2-3 holes to make it silent? If anyone has advice for drilling tanks or good links to anything i need that would be helpful.
