Maybe. Any thoughts on this? I know most advise setting up away from direct sunlight, then again, some of the best tanks I've seen were in atriums or greenhouses. I just thought I'd try and get some feedback on placement of my tank. My other option would be move the TV by the window, the 29 in my bedroom and the 90 where the TV and 29 are. Lmk what you guys think. Thanks

you can always paint the back glass black... and I've seen some pretty nice tanks in green houses and sun rooms as well so it could work... you might battle some more algae issues though but its your tank...

Yup it's black. It was silver when I got it but I scraped that off and painted it black

i would say test it out with a flash light see if light penetrates if it doesn't then i don't see a problem other than some added heat because darker colors to absorb heat better.. i have a friend who had his nano in front of a window only kept it there for a few weeks but no real problems in that time

I did and it seems fine. Thanks. I also have blackout curtains and blinds. Never really set a tank up near a window. But my apartment gets tons of light anyplace lol.

That spot that it's in now doesn't look right in my taste.

Maybe rotate the TV to where the camera is. Switch the couches to the window and put the large tank to the wall where the couches use to be. Then put the 29 next to the 90. The desk would go where the 29 was. And misc items where the TV was. Idk

Thanks. Keep the ideas rolling. As the tank is placed in the pic, it's just temporary. More or less out of the way. There is a table and a club chair behind it. I was thinking either put the tank in the center window, or the window on the left. Kinda where it is now but back further against the window. I also have a nice custom hand carved canopy that will sit on top. Here is a closer pic of the tank in my living room

Is it possible to move the couch in front of the windows and then put the tank in the wall space under the cat picture? You could tilt the tv around a little so you could see it from the couch.

image.jpeg I put a 75 right in front of a window. I have blinds that can keep the direct light out. It would get direct sun the second half of the day. It's never been an issue, but we keep the house 70 year round. Sometimes if the back sides of the corals look like they could use more light I'll leave the blinds open for an hour a day.

That's not a bad idea at all! Thanks I might consider thay

Hey that's great. How does the sunlight effect the corals? Anything notable?

they do pretty well either way but the shadowing is pretty bad to the corals that have spread all the way to the back. The sun fixes that. Once I got a par meter I was surprised to see how intense the sun really is with direct sun inside the tank. Over 1000 par at times.

When this tank was cycling algae was a MAJOR problem but once the tank was completely cycled and stable it hasn't been any more of an issue than any other aquarium.

May be a bit extreme but if permanent curtains aren't an option you can tint the glass of window, even a light tint will reduce a decent amount of light.

I don't understand why people say sunlight will lead to algae issues.
Can someone clear that up for me?
