I recently purchased a used GEO 618 calcium reactor from a friend and am excited to set it up. In the past, I have only dosed kalkwasser and 2-part. I wanted to see what people thought about connecting the reactor to my tank. I had planned on hooking it up to a manifold that is fed by my return pump. However, my friend uses a dosing pump to draw the effluent out of the reactor. He claims this is much safer in the event that the effluent line gets clogged up. I never gave this any thought until now, but my feeling is that if the effluent line gets clogged then the water would simply get redirected back to the fish tank instead of causing a pressure build up inside of the reactor.

Can people give me their input and let me know which way they think is the best way to plumb a calcium reactor?

Also, I plan on using 1/4" mur-lock tubing for the input and effluent lines.

There are a bunch of ways to feed the reactor. Each has pro's and con's.

Right now I personally feed mine from a manifold to the reactor and then a needle valve on the output.

Watch this video, he's talking about how to tune the reactor, but you will also see how to feed it as well so you have very little problems.

Hope this helps you.
