Hello everyone, I currently have a 65 gallon tank with 7 fish in it. My powder blue has gotten ich and I need to get all the fish out of there for the next 12 weeks or so. I have a 10 gallon tank with a sponge filter I was going to put them into just for the 12 weeks so I can get them medicated and keep my DT fallow for that time. Will 10 gallons be big enough you think? And will the sponge filter and water from my 65 be enough of a bio load for the water and to not have an ammonia spike?? Really want to get them out and treaded soon. Will be putting 4inch PVC pipe in to 10 gallon for hiding spots as well. I have 2 clowns, a fox face, a powder blue, a file fish, a chromis and another type of tang I cant remember the name of ATM. Any information would be great. Thank you. Also all fish are on the smaller end for there type.

A 10 gallon with 7 fish including a powder blue is going to be to small. You likely will run into issues keeping ammonia down. A 40 breeder makes a great quarantine tank and they can be picked up for fairly low price. A hang on back filter with a sponge and a bottle of bio spira are my go to for quarantine. Never experienced an ammonia spike with that setup ;)

Edit: @Victoria M beat me to it lol

What makes it a breeder tank??

That's just what its referred to is a 40 breeder 36x18x16
Ohh okay, tha k you for your reply by the way. So you think 40 gallons would have to be the minimum? My biggest fish is probably the powder and hes maybe 3 inches long along with the other tang. The others are quite a bit smaller

Yes, I'd still do a 40 breeder or larger. Simply for the fact that nutrient spikes are going to be easier to handle and less of an impact on larger water volumes.
