Hey everyone I have had a 20gallon saltwater tank for about 5 month now and the algae in the tank has killed off most of my corals and I have almost given up on reefing. But recently I have been researching ect and have decided I'm going to get a new tank and set it up with a sump that has a protein skimmer and algae scraper. Also I'm going to buy a dimmable 120watt light of eBay as my current light probably isn't very good. I will also try my hand at dosing and I will have a little tank on the side to create surges (waves) though siphon. Is there anything else I need to consider? Thankyou everyone sorry it was a long story

I would try to determine why you were having trouble with algae in the first tank. You may end up with the same issue in a larger tank. Were you using RODI water? How many fish are in the tank and how are you feeding them?

Hey Jim I have a Valentini puffer, a flagtail trigger and a filefish, baby moray eel and hermit crab in a 20 gal

I'm guessing you're got too much bioload for your tank to handle / process causing the excess nutrients. How much rock do you have in the tank? In a 20g I wouldn't put more than 2 or 3 smaller fish. Once you upgrade with your current fish you'll already be close to maxing out.
