Setting Up My First Reef Tank!!!!!!!

really nice work on all of it i like your lil lite on ref. whats the name? thinking on doing similiar and is the mangroves working well with it? once again great job

The mangroves are doing really good. The light is a Tom compact Florecent, they are made specifically for refugiums.

Hi Cory-girl... what was the substrate that you used? By the way like the sump... great job on all of it, I am sure your proud and should be.
My wife is letting me start up a second 55gl, I think it's because I just bought her a green house with accessories and all the organic seeds she ever wanted... we each love our hobbies!
We are always saying look at this and look at that...

Thanks for sharing...

Hi Slugwall,

I used Carib Sea Ocean Direct Caribbean Live Sand.

I am very proud of my sump! I did a lot of research on R2R and learned from the members here.
I share the same passion with my husband and we enjoy our reef tank.

Enjoy starting up a new tank. Look forward to seeing pics.

Led's came in !

any news abouth the Led lights you have site vhere you order from .

Sorry I took so long to answer, I have been sick with Pneumonia.

They were easy to instal. They are very bright and the blues are incredible. I had to move a few pieces around because they are much brighter than the T5's. So far the corals are doing really well.

The lights were order from eshinesystems.com

Peter over at eshine was very attentive and answered all our questions.

EXCUSE THE PICTURE CAMERA HAS THE WRONG DATE.

Hello Everyone,

I decided to update the pictures of my Reef Tank for all to see. I am happy to say that the LED lights are fantastic. I am sorry that I did not order the dimmer when I purchased the lights, so I have them on timers. That will be my next purchase. I have purchased a few new pieces of Corals and my old residents are doing very nice. Many have rewarded me with beautiful colors and growth. My Giant Anthilias are like weeds and I had to move them to the right side of the tank to keep them from smothering my other corals.

I also had a candy cane coral, which came with the live rock I purchased, who was mostly dead. Since I set up my tank and added the LED's he has come back. I know have 4 heads!!! Two are very small but if you had seen them when I first got them you would have seen two tinny heads and to dead heads. I also have two trumpet corals that I did not know existed until one day I saw an orange spot on a rock. Now you can see both heads nice and full.

I purchased a coral and I am not sure what it is. I told my husband I thinks it's a Blastomussa, he says its Caulastrea. I would appreciate any help you can give me in identifying this coral.

I am so glad you like the stand! My husband and I built it. It was hard work but when it was done we were estatic!!!!
I will keep the pics coming. I enjoy taking photos of my tank. I currently have a scrapbook going so years from now I can look back and see how it all started.

I am ashamed to say, no.

When I first started the tank I used to keep a log. I have not made an entry in over a month, even though, my husband reminds me everyday.
I guess you can say I am making a mistake.

This is flyfisher2, Cory-girls husband.
I am posting to let those of you who interacted with Evelyn know that she is no longer with us. Eve passed on February 6th after three years of fighting cancer, She was always online and asking for pics of her tank while she was in the hospital. She has a 180 gallon tank she received for Christmas which has never been filled. I intend to put that tank up for her once we are done with our move.

Thank you all for making her time here memorable

God Bless
