Hi Folks,

Question about red slime. I currently have a 120 gallon tank that has been running for a year and I've had a couple of out breaks of red slime but have successfully treated it so it's no longer visible on rocks or the sand but I know it's still there because it seems to flair up every 4-5 months or so.

So I'm setting up a new 200 gal. aquarium and to start the cycle process I put some of my seasoned live rock from my old tank in the new one. Before putting it in I used some commercial coral dip that I thought would kill off any parasites, slime, algae, etc. I did one dip then scrubbed each rock using a tooth brush then did a second dip. Well you can imagine I was surprised that after putting the rocks in the new aquarium a patch of red slime appeared on one the rocks after a couple of days!

So question is, what did I do wrong? Do I need take all of my live rock out of my old tank and nuke them by drying in the sun and soaking them in pure RO/DI water? I know this will kill everything on the rocks but the last thing I want is red slime in my new tank.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

thank you
