So torn... I had sand for 2 years and liked it but it got ugly... I don't mind the look of bare bottom but if I hate it, how hard is it to add sand after the fact.. Seems easier than removing it..

There are just too many cool gobies, wrasse, and various inverts to go bare bottom for me. If you vacuum it out good a couple times a year, the maintenance isnt bad and the tank will remain healthy. A diamond goby will keep it looking clean at all times. While I couldnt do it, I do understand the convenience factor for some.

Gotcha, that might be an option. Is sand really that much more to keep up? Granted... I didn't do anything to my previous tank and it did great.

My opinion is no but some dont enjoy it. If I didnt enjoy looking at the critters that can make use of it, I'd probably ditch it too.

IF I don't do sand, what are the main animals/corals that can't be kept?

If you’re going with an SPS dominated system, adjusting your flow for your corals is a lot easier without having to deal with sand.

I prefer the look of a nice clean sand bed, but I’ll never have one in my display for exactly the reason I mentioned.

Humm, good point. Ugh... decisions. However, i can go bare and if I want I can add later. Just don't know how much of an issue it would be to do so.
