Ok so I'm moving in with inlaws for a yr to save $ for house! So I'm gonna set up a 40 breeder to move all my sps frags and other my favorite corals! They will be comming from my 75 gal with all the bells whistles to have sps!

The 40 has a hob skimmer no sump! It will. Be used to really just hang on to my prized corals don't care about ascetics!

So my question is how much Rock do I need i will be going bare bottem and setting up egg crates for all frags How many fish should I keep? Was thinking 2 sm fish maybe 3 wanna keep bio load down !

Any suggestions I'm all ears!

Thanks Matt

Maybe take the rock you have and smash it up into rubble rock. It will give you more surface area (which is what your after) and you'll be able to place it under the eggcrate. Two fish should be fine and three could be just as good. You will need some nitrates to keep stuff happy and if the two fish aren't able to do it then drop another in :).

I am in the process of setting up a 20g frag tank and will have some rubble and two clowns in it. For filtration I'll have a 2 HOB filters and hopefully I'll get the sump going before to long.

I do have a hob I was gonna run carbon and phosban in it !

I'm also gonna grow cheto in 1 coner

Who agrees with Lr rubble covering bottem?? My only worry with that would trap too much ditritus

Bump looking for some input on this I'm gonna set up the 40 breeder few weeks b4 I move corals over gonna use my current Lr but not sure if I should break it up into rubble if that works I think I'll try that so there is more room for racks to hold coral!

Ok that's a start! Any recommendations ? Im gonna pack a hob filter with rock rubble !
Then maybe just add 30 lbs rock to tank!

Would adding rock rubble be ok if I use egg crate Raised off bottem of tank 2 inches ? Tank will have very good flow Because its basicly gonna be to grow collect sps until i can set up a new display have 2 mp 40

Maybe put a maxijet or something under the eggcrate area to keep detritus from settling. Id do the eggcrate in 2 pieces so you could take one out and vacum then do the other side.

It would be easy just to move the 75, stash it in a closet and call it a day If u set on the 40 then yeah keep bare bottom no egg crate add a lot of rock and glue new frags in Break down the 75 keep a frag of things u want to keep and sell off the coloniesYou can also have a friend hold some frags for u just in case something went wrong No more then 3-4 small fish that stay small and you should be ok

What if I add egg creat to bottem raised 2" so it's not directly on glass ? Tank will be designed for sps so lots of flow 2 mp 40

I highly suggest if you are going to use a hang on the back filter to put purigen and chemi-pure elite in it. An Aquaclear 70 or bigger are excellent for this. they are huge and are almost like a fuge themselves. I run this on my 10 gallon nano, and my parameters are always good, especially if I do religious water changes.

Dowfish any reason why u like puregon? I was gonna run lots sm Lr rubble in my hob and run carbon and phosban in tlf reactors ! But now I think about maybe just use the hob for carbon but u think I should go with puregon over phosban

Ok I'm goona use hon for carbon and phosban
Maybe I'll try the puregon u like it better then phosban??

my frag tank is bare bottom with egg crate raised two inches or so. i have a few pounds of rock in one corner and rubble in my sump/refugium. i do get detrius that builds up on the bottom of tank, but i do weekly water changes and use tubing to suck it out. i think your idea with the hob is good. do it that way and you should be fine.

Going with a 6 build t5 light on this tank the corals will be comming from a tank with DIY LEDs any suggestions on light acclimation ?

No specific reason. And honestly i didnt catch that you were going to be running reactors. I would go with your original plan knowing that now.

Typed from my phone, because I have nothing better to do.
