Tank 20 long, sump 20 long. around 35g total volume.
I bought an aqua UV 8 watt unit, and am feeding it with a sicce syncra nano (~110gph)

I currently have the pump in the DT, and the UV returning water to the other side of the DT. Is this the most effective setup?

Once i see the dinos reducing, would i be ok re plumbing the uv unit in line with the tank return?( syncra silent 1.5 return pump 3/4" pipe)

TIA

If possible try and put the UV return water going to the sump near your skimmer if you have one.

I do not currently have a skimmer, though i was considering adding a tunze 9001 to the system.

I assume this is to remove the dead or sterilized dinos?

That is correct, along with the dead bacteria leaving the UV. In that case either leave it the way it is or plumb it back in line with your return.

great, thanks. Just ordered a DC 9001 skimmer, Will have it dump out by the skimmer when thats installed and broken in.

I believe you are better to run the UV in a closed loop in the DT.. If you have a pump failure or your return pump cant handle the extra flow, you could drain your DT into your sump. Then your floor..
Check out my thread.
