Hello Everyone,

I am setting up my first tank and would like any tips or feedback on this setup fittings.

Should i add a weir box or is the attachment i have adequate enough? Should i get a random flow nozzle or leave the one I have as is?

that return cover would clog very easy, I'd recommend using one of the internal overflow box adapters like Eshopps Eclipse Internal Overflow https://www.aquacave.com/aquarium-o...-eclipse-internal-overflow-box-kit-small.html Just make sure there's enough space on the glass since the return line hole is very close to drain. For return, random flow nozzle is not necessary esp since u already have 2 powerheads.

Looks like a real nice setup overall, but that is the rub... a single drain and no overflow box.
Up high in the tank like that, and directly under the light, it will really want to grow algae and those strainers clog up easily. It would be very scary to leave the tank unattended for even a few days. Aside from the risk of overflowing the DT, it will also give you an inconsistent water level/water volume. Coupled with your ATO, the salinity could fluctuate as well.

I do indeed like that overflow box however they are so expensive for literally an acrylic box with a bulkhead wow, but yes that is what i'm looking for

I agree its expensive, lol! Unfortunately this is an expensive hobby , which is why I try to buy exclusively used gear. U can google to see if there r cheaper internal overflow boxes. But I would definitely not use that return cover.

I agree, I bought the tank second hand so yea i find this more affordable.For now until I find a decent overflow box ill buy another drain cover exactly like mine and change them every so often so i can wash one while replacing with a brand new clean one each time. what you think for a temporary solution mate?

that should be fine as long as you keep an eye on it bc those will clog quickly, meanwhile I'd also file/drill the cover to make the openings bigger

The fittings you have seem to be adequate. If you have a high flow GPH, I would then consider random flow.

I just looked up the manual for this tank its 84litres display tank (nett) and the sump is 17litres( nett) the total volume the main tank can take is 101litres, so technically if the weir had to clog it would fill up the main tank to its limit and no water would overflow hmmmm.... correct me if i'm wrong tho but then again it would overflow only because the amount in the ATO would fill some of the water up hmmm

Correct. Unless u place the ATO sensor in DT, however this may not work well due to powerheads moving the water/sensor too much. As long as u keep an eye on strainer and clean it often, should be fine. If it was me, I'd cut and remove each alternating piece of the strainer bracket to make opening bigger. Just need to prevent snails & fish from entering the drain.

Alternatively, you can use both holes as drains and make the return hang over the back glass like this
