So I'm cycling a new tank of mine. 100 gallons.

I'm using marinepure bioballs and live nitrifying bacteria to cycle my tank.

It's been about 2 weeks since adding both. And I'm doing a fish cycle. So there's 2 clowns in there.

I also put some cheap zoas I had laying around in there as well.

Well I noticed a small bacteria outbreak about 3 days ago. It got better and now overnight by water green. You can barely see through it. Also the filter sock was added yesterday or the day before and is pure brown.

What could this be. Normal algae outbreak for a cycle. Or something worse? Almost done testing phosphate. But for now it looks to be at .01

Here's the sock

Test the basics, ammonia, nitrates. Perform water changes as indicated. For an algae bloom I would leave the lights out until you see some improvement, and change out or add charcoal.

So the question is why the green water. I've heard of algae growing and diatoms growing in things. But not ever had green water like in a nasty outdoor pond.
