I’ve searched a bit online and haven’t found a very clear guide on how to sex the red rooster waspfish. I’ve read a forum post stating the males have more pronounced dorsal spines, and suspect I have a male. Does anyone have any experience with this? Here’s a picture of mine.

From my experience, Males usually have sharper dorsal spikes while females have less sharp and less pronounced spikes. It is extremely hard to accurately sex waspfish, however from the picture you provided my guess would be that it is a male because of its dorsal spikes.

That's a male, see how the first few spikes on the dorsal fin is longer than the rest. The female's spikes will be more uniform from front to back. In the pic, male in the front, female in the back.

See how the dorsal spikes are more uniform and the front ones are more stumpy on this female.
