I picked up some Iodine today I'm going to start dosing as soon as I get home from work, the plan is to go with an initial dose and a daily dilute sol'n on my doser. at some point in the new year I may pickup a test kit

If I see no improvement or things get worse I will try and get a sample I can look at under the microscope, im still thinking this may be something like marine vorticella... if that's the case hopefully metroplex will be effective.

Good news everyone, I have been dosing Iodine daily for the past couple days it would appear this has encouraged my sexy shrimp to molt and I am down to just 1 fuzzy shrimp left.

I'm still unsure exactly what they had on their exoskeletons... But molting appears tonbe helping regardless, being holidays I'm away from the microscope at work but I've saved a few molts in SW to check out after the holidays.

Bad news, doing the rounds this morning and once again a can see a translucent layer starting on some of the shrimp, doing some general research and this looks alot like brooklynella which Is another protazoan infection in fish, metropoex is on it's way in the mail

This morning I found a molt and took it in to work, the culprate was very obvious and prolific but not very easy to identify, The culprate is...Carchesium!

Started treatment with metropoex today, very worried as I've seen mixed reviews in now "shrimp safe" is it, GAC and plenty of SW on hand but day 1 has gone well.

So, what's been happening? More shrimp with it or less? Is it just unsightly or has it actually caused shrimp deaths? (This is quite fascinating, thanks for being on top of it and sharing your findings. )

So far no Shrimp deaths, it seems the infected shrimp are "mostly" unaffected things I've noticed are increased grooming and "itching" also the lack of pregnant females - may possible reasons for this but it's noteworthy

The Carchesium seems to come off with the molts and slowly come back over time, Iodine dosing has definitely helped to encourage regular molting. At last count I had 5/14 shrimp infected this may or may not simply have to do with where they fall on a molting cycle... I should get them all name tags

Lights are on today and Ive already feed, they seem to be much more active in going after the food. I'm still seeing Carchesium to some degree on my 5 but I'll venture to say it doesn't seem as... "Poofy" if that makes any sense. I will do a water change tomorrow and redose the tank again...

Makes sense, fewer parasites and less of that clear matrix that they're embedded in.

Yes, name tags, or maybe just paint little numbers on their backs.

What do you look for in pregnancy? I have about a dozen sexys in one of my tank and I think their numbers might be increasing.

if you look under the tails on the females you should be able to see tiny orange eggs tucked within the tail, they really need to be in the right position to see, its doubtful that they are multiplying in your tank, unfortunately unlike FW shrimp these guys have a pretty long larval stage and require dedicated systems.

on my 4th dose of Metro tonight, the Carchesium is till present on a few shrimp... beginning to wonder how effective the Metro is. water is getting cloudy with the UV off - this may also be due to bacterial die off? water changes every 2 days prior to redosing.

the good news is one of my females let go of a bunch of larva last night.. bad news is I wasn't expecting it so I didn't have BBS on hand.
