This is an update on the mangrove/seagrass and coral reef tanks in my biology lab. A few weeks ago the soon-to-be 55 gallon reef tank (which had been cycling for months) began to leak. I spent the entire spring break week draining and resealing the tank. It's back up and running now and once I figure out how I want to mount my lights, I'll be ready to add corals and fish.

The mangrove/seagrass tank is doing OK. As expected it's been overrun with hair algae and the couple of wild-caught hermits & snails weren't doing the trick. I went to my local fish store to get a cleaner crew and the owner (who knows what my goal is for the tank) twisted my arm to buy a seahorse. He fed them in the store and I picked the runty yellow one because he was eating like a champ. He kept eating even while in the bag and drip acclimate container. So far he's doing well and the cleaner crew is hard at work removing the hair algae from the mangroves and seagrass blades.
