Sfin's Dream.

Inkbird up and running. I have it set for 78 and 1 degree differential. Should I set the the heater to 79 or higher or just to 78?
Personally I set the heater up with 1/2 to 1 deg up (if isn't fdgital and if it's with bimetal thermal control inside) and the chiller with 1- 1/2 down (I'm using mix temp controller for both heating and cooling STC1000 mainly for brewers) ;)

Thanks. I bump the heater up.

personally I'll check it in separate container to be really 1 deg over only and will go off, just in case if the Inkbird relay stuck not to overheat the tank with more than 1 deg ;) [I always do that, because they aren't that accurate at all (usually +/- 1-2 deg ), the analogue I mean]

My heater is on the fritz. Won't stay on

but that now, or usually ? Sorry, I don't get it properly..., because if don't turn on at all can be from the controller, or you know the heater (after test it on the manis w/o the controller) isn't working ?

When I got my Finnex I set my heater at 80 but kept the controller at 78. I have since bought a Finnex titanium heater with no controller and just use the FInnex controller.

you have a back up?take out of fresh or fo?
I have 3x300 watts heaters on 160 gallon system. 1 on controller set at 80 and other 2 hard set at 78 constant. Gets cold around here now. Temps swinging @ 76-78f on reef.
Ambient house temps around 70f
Outside air temps high 30's low 70's.

I totally agree with setting the heater higher than the controller. The most likely failure point for the heater is the thermostat. You want the controller to do the work. Then if the controller ever fails, the heater's thermostat is like brand new.
