I'm going with the dual herbie. And returns over the back. I know you guys said its an over kill but that's what I'm going with. Right now they have the sump return at 1 1/2 inch. They had 2 inch going into 1 1/2. I figured I could do the same but herbie style.

I thought it was a great idea so there’s not 4 drain lines into the sump. I intend to copy his idea on a 180 since I don’t have a huge sump and would rather not have 4 drain lines.

My initial thought was that it will likely take a bit longer with that configuration, to purge all of the air out of the lines regaining a full siphon.

It looks like the pipe size was stepped up appropriately where they join to not have any back pressure.

If I was going this route, I would opt for 3 lines into the sump. Two individual main siphons and join the two backups as the mains are now. Knowing there will not be even close to enough water flowing through the tank to overwork two Herbies. That's just me

Both my emergency drains are directly into the sump. One emergency goes into the first chamber the second goes into the return chamber.

Yes that's what I understood. It looks like you have two main siphons converging into one, and two emergency drains left open with their own dump out lines.

I would have done it the other way around with the two mains opens and emergency tied together if you have Space crunch, but again, I don't see a reason it won't work.
