SG Well low !!!!!

well after Reading severally Posts on R2R About calibrating a refractor with rodi water, and after i bought 3 new fish i had asked my lfs what sg Their water was at .. i was told they keep it at 1.022 .. and he checked it in front of me .. when i got home i tested Their water with my refractor ...:mad::mad::mad: and iT was way off ...... way way off
The lfs water with a Reading of 1.022 was showing a Reading off 1.030 on my refractor ..sooo i took my refractor and a sample of my water too the lfs we tested it got a Reading of 1.018 , calibrated my refractor too Their water , bought more salt and have spent the last 2 days doing 10 liter water Changes with sg of 1.050 on a 350 liter system ....

So now .... now my sg reads 1.024 Will do a couple more Tomorow got my ato turned off so that Will help get iT up al little more .....
Ooohhh and ive now ordered a hydrometer from tropric marin ....!!!

lol, Did you read one of my stupid threads on Randy's forum?

Ran out of .35 solution last fall. Got lazy and started zeroing out to RO/DO water for three months.
My display read 1.025. Finally bought some more 2 little fishes .35 solution in January and re calibrated to that. Checked my display again and I was sitting at 1.021.

Brought my sg up which rose up my big three. (lol) I didn't have to dose those for awhile but that's the last time that I don't use .35 solution to keep my refractometer calibrated.

One last thing:
Once your meter is calibrated and you mix a new batch of salt water, then you can store some of that new water for future calibration if you don't spend $10 for a bottle .35 solution.

Yes ive also ordered .35 ppt solution , wont make this mistake again ... just when i thought i was getting everything in line as Well ..and just after having a problem with being sold the wrong di Resin for my rodi ... they sold me reused resin .. which was showing 38 Tds .. i'd done a couple of water changes plus all the water in my ATO before I'd realized what was wrong ... my tank was looking awful ...

How did you get re-used di resin?

I just use the BRS color changing resin but I go by the tds meter.

I buy my di resin from a window cleaning wholesale shop .. I didn't even know there was such a thing .. the last time I was there I bought a carbon filter , a filter membrane and the resin .. I've never had problems before I changed both filters out and put new resin in ... and yes I just took it for granted that it would be good( big mistake ) started getting algae and black cyno on my sand bed so checked the std meter .38 tds took the the resin back too the shop, where they explained the mistake and gave me the right resin for free !! All newbie mistakes I guess .. just glad so far that I've been able too work out all my mistakes ... and that has only come from all the reading of posts and articles on this amazing forum !!! So thank you all !!
