Good morning folks. I have general question for the segment of the forum members that have custom built tanks. I currently have RSR 350 and I am trying to plan for near future ... not looking for anything huge but I do want 48x48x18 shallow reef.... worth of have a vision for it ... however I dont have any clue on which builder to go with what's better than other and also i do realize that just bc i want something and have vision for doesn't mean it's good or right . So on that note can you guys enlighten me on cons of shallow reef ... pros would be nice to hear and or any advice you guys could share as far as builder or anything else in regards to the tank bc in my mind I would like to make this forever tank....[emoji848] at least that's what I keep telling myself ...

Thank you

Ummm no1 runs square shallow reef in here ...hard to believe... no1 here has custom built tank...

ThNk you for all this info guys... greT help I think you all made up my mind...thx again [emoji2961][emoji2961][emoji2961]

haha so what did you make up your mind on? i saw no info posted here.

i too was thinking about building a 48x48x18 tank. with over flow in center for a 360 walk around view. found some custom build ones but they are expensive haha.

Made up my mind that was a waist of time being on here I guess. I'll figure it out

customaquariums.com will make it, but they dont do an overflow in the center (360 view). would have to be a concealment tower (basicly just an overflow pipe in middle, no emergency overflow either.

tankusa.com will make it and be high quality. but expect to pay a lot.

i am still contemplating building this tank!

Cool. . I was kind of looking at glass cages but not nuff reviews on them to make educated decision.. ..but will definitely go check those out and see the difference

customaquariums.com I have seen allot of their tanks.
Glasscages has a sketchy reputation. Some people have had luck while others hate them.

I was just watching this video on a shallow/lagoon aquarium.

I can testify to the bad reputation well deserved by Glasscages. They shipped my tank essentially in cardboard then refused to replace it.

Well crap... that was the reason I was trying to communicate here ... expiriances speak volumes

Glasscages is super terrible. They shipped my tank essentially covered by cardboard, which of course caused the tank to break. They then refused to replace it. Really sketchy company.

The whole tank was placed on a warehouse wood palate, then tied down with two flimsy plastic cords. Then covered by a loose cardboard over the tank. The last tank I ordered from fishtanksdirect was shipped in a custom wooden crate, even though it was an acrylic tank.

They initially said that they will replace the tank, then asked me to send in the overflow template/overflow. I sent via Fedex with confirmation that Glasscages signed for it. Then, I called back after 2 weeks, and they told me that they could not locate the template/overflow anywhere. I sent in another template, but two weeks after that, when I called back, they said that they could not claim insurance. They then refused all further follow-ups. It is a crime that such a company is still in business.
