This shark is currently on my local craigslist. They have it listed as a nerf shark. I'm assuming the seller means nurse shark. To me though it looks more like an adult bamboo. What do you all think?

Is a nurse
Bamboo is banded color and dorsal fin is convex
Thought I could see faint banding on it, like you see in the older bamboos, but it must be my mind playing tricks on me. I found some pictures of older striped bamboos and the dorsals look identical as well

:)No fishfreak
A distintictive characteristic of the bamboo is the convex dorsal fin
This in the pic will be a 3 mt or more of shark:eek:

Yeah, somebody local has the poor thing in a 6'x2' 220 gallon. The ad says it's 3.5' long but it looks closer to two feet to me.

Looks like a Smoothehound. Although the 2 dorsals may make me wrong.
If it is, then they definitely prefer colder water as they are from the coast of California.

That's sad, imo it should be donated to a nearby aquarium. Not many homes are set up for a shark that size. And being listed on Craigslist isn't a good start on finding a good home. Probably listed along with pit bull puppy's and pythons....

This shark looks exactly like the adult brownbanded bamboo sharks we have at the Public Aquarium where I work on weekends. Concave dorsals, faded "beige-on-tan" bands and all.

It's not a nurse shark.

Nurse sharks have a much larger head. The picture is not clear enough to determine if it is a Smoothehound or not. That said it does appear to be like a Smoothehound. I placed four in a 1560 gallon tank for a customer in the 1990's

Note that on the shark in question, the first dorsal sits directly above the pelvic fins, while on that sleek smoothhound, the first dorsal sits between pectorals and pelvics.

Still thinkin' brownbanded bamboo. (~_^) Also thinkin' that if that's what you're looking for, maybe set up an appointment to check him out?
