I got the Salifert test kit, recommended that its easier to read, and I was wondering what is best for a Marbled Cat Shark, I am planning on having a 1.025 SG, 8.0-8.4 ph, and as for others like phosphate and dkh im not sure. @alprazo

In the tank we kept our shark the alkalinity was 9 dkh, phosphate undetectable and nitrate was 5-10 ppm. Weekly water changes were performed as consistency and stability were the goal.

Bumped your thread for any users that keep sharks to help you out.

Weekly 20%? I plan on doing that and how do you adjust dkh?

Did weekly 20% with coral pro. All tanks were dosed with eight four by aquavitro as all contained some coral. I wouldn't be to concerned with dosing.

Yeah I won't have coral, but do what you mean with coral pro?

The chemistry shouldn’t be any different than a fish only tank. Try to keep nitrates reasonable <50 ppm. Reef conditions are good, but definatly not required. Sharks require iodine supplementation in their diet. They lack bones so calcium is not a big player. It you keep the parameters you posted, you will be fine. They are pretty resilient animals and can tolerate many extremes depending on the species. I’d keep the temp in the mid to low 70s. Mine stays at 71F for my tropical/subtropical tank,

How do I ensure my tank is well oxygenated, i read that a few times before. Just never found out the specifics

Just purchased mazuri vita zu vitamins, just gotta figure out how to give it to the shark now lol

I have a DO meter for transporting them, but to be honest, you will not need one. The aeration from your skimmer will suffice. Also keeping the temps in the 70s helps.

hopefully, you bought the small vits. FOr pup sharks, I pierce a piece of shrimp with a skewer and insert the vitamin into the hole. It is a little sloppy, they fall out sometimes, but it does the job on most occasions. You may have to snap the vit in half for neonates. Make sure they are eating well before attempting the vits. You have a couple of months before any concern of goiter.
