I currently have a tank with a good amount of shermans in. I found a few people that were selling them and bought in bulk.

I am trying to see why it has been a few months and I barely see any of them split but the tank that these came in the person said they were splitting like wild fire.

I do not target feed any of them and have moderate flow and medium to high lighting on them. 12 hours of blue and 4 hours of intense white. All my parameters are good besides some nitrate and phosphate but I like my water high in nutrients because of my heavy livestock.

What kind of flow and light settings should be ideal for these.

I am wanting to have these split so I can start to farm some of it.

I think my flow may a little high but I'm running 2 mp40 and 2 mp10 at less than 20% reef crest.

Attached is a video and some photos for some references. 20220612_114742.jpg 20220607_151258.jpg

Direct feeding or changes in lighting have triggered splits for me in the past.

I have also heard and been told by some sellers that dirty water would cause them to split as well.

I tried to feed one raw shrimp from the store, it got infected and tried to treat with cipro in separate tank. That's the reason I only broadcast feed now

What do you feed yours.

I read a study about the gut contents of wild BTAs and IIRC, like 99% was plankton sized bits of food. I’ll see if I can find the study. I feed my BTAs mysis, brine, and/or ocean plankton (a little bigger and meatier than mysis). If you want them to naturally split, you need to feed them, mine split about every six months without inducing it. If you want to induce splitting, salinity, temp, and lighting changes are the most common ways. If your friend is seeing individuals split more than once every 4-6 months, it’s likely because he doesn’t keep stable conditions.

Same thing I'm feeding my fish, just make it easier for them to catch. Mysis, spiruline brine shrimp, Rods fish only, Rods fish eggs, pellets

It's not a popular option with some, but you can manually split them as well. Just make sure everything is sterile.
I've seen some heal within days after being propagated.
