Ok Hawkfish get me vote for coolest small fish! No only does he have the biggest personality (even beating out the bicolor blenny and you known how cool they are) but he swims around like a mini swordfish and posts up and watches all day keeping an eye on everything! And you really can’t beat the color and pattern. Such a handsome fish. He picks the cool places to sleep. Just moon lights on so not the prettiest coral shot. Looks way better with the blues on

Hawkfish typically perch and are not picky on where they will do so.

That is awesome!! What size tank do you have? Are they fish that spend most of their time perching? I have those types so they work in my 5g. I have read how great these guys are. :-)

Hawks will perch on rocks and coral all day long. They will hop from perch to perch, and can swim to get where they need or during feeding.
They all get too big for a 5 gallon though, maybe a geometric Pygmy hawk would work.

Tank is 65, yup he perches all over all day. He likes to hang out on these shrooms but I can never get a shot of him when he is on his “throne” such a great addition

Thanks for this! I will research the Pygmy type more. I would love to have one of these guys but would never put one in my tank unless I was certain it would be happy.

Wow, such a beautiful fish! Mother Nature sure knows her stuff when she created all of the marine creatures! :-)

What size tank? The long nose Hawkfish like mine are rated for a 30 gal or larger. Lid is a good idea these guys can accelerate at insane speeds. They are literally mini swordfish. So fast! Scaled up I would bet money one one of these against a actual swordfish in a speed battle

My tank is only a 5g. It was mentioned the Pygmy type might work but I will have to do more research. Everything in my tank is small and are types that don't need room to roam because they're fish that stick to one area.

Didn't read all the comments so someone else may have said this already, but have you considered a clown goby for your 5g? Adorable little perchers, lol.

Yep, I have one of these guys. The yellow type. He was my second addition. They are great little fish! They have a lot of personality and very active. I'm thinking of getting one of the other colors. :-)

They are so cute! I have only seen the green ones in my LFS, but if they ever get a citron or a black I may just have to snag one, lol.
