So I have a 8ft 380g tank and I have the tank on a concrete slab with tile. It's honestly the only place this monster will fit in my house, but I have some concern about the shimming, it's really high to get everything level. I was planning on adding more shims between the shims for more support. Is this ok?

What’s up man beautiful tank!! I’m a construction worker in the project managing side of things looking at this I feel like you need more support tile is known to crack with a bunch of weight also depending on the specs of the tile. I would say look into maybe seeing what the max weight is in that tile. I would also maybe put a metal shim over the wood may run into an issue later if that wood cracks. I hope everything works out well man

It looks like those are the composite shims which hold up better than wood ones when they get wet, so that’s good. That being said, when I’ve had large gaps to shim I’ll cut my own custom shim. I’ll take a pressure treated 2x4 and cut it the length I need then mark how tall I need it to be on each end. That way it’s supported the whole length. You can do this on all open sides. Good luck.

How did you go about cutting the 2/4 so it was ramped? (Short on one side and higher on the other)

I’m a finish carpenter so sometimes I take for granted that I’ve got a ton of tools available to me. My table saw would be my go to, but a band saw, skilsaw, or jigsaw would even work in a pinch. If the cut is wobbly or uneven you may need to sand it to get it straight and smooth. It’s not ideal to have humps or high spots.

I got a bunch of tools. I’ll try the table saw tomorrow.

Yeah this changes may reflect the tank and yield to greater life

I freehand it on my table saw (so no fence) since it’s at an angle. Be careful to keep all your fingers though. As your fingers get close as you’re pushing it through, switch your grip to behind the blade and pull it through. When free handing it, I find I have more control this way than using a push stick.

Sound terrifying, but fudge it, lets give it a shot
