Are shipped anemones typically more dull than what they are "suppose" to look like? I bought a pricey nem a week ago online that is suppose to be much more vibrant than what it currently looks like. I have another nem that I bought from a LFS for about a quarter of the price that is much more vibrant than the one I had shipped. Hoping that someone can let me know that there is hope!

Wysiwyg is often times the way to go. Yellow Tang are always going to be vivid yellow because that’s what the species looks like. Anemones though are all over the charts. Just got a RBTA 2 months ago. Best looking one I’ve ever owned.

I just did the same thing but online

The nem just looks like a Rose BTA with very little coloring aside from the dark red. I hope it colors up over time. I feel duped and will only be getting WYSIWYG from now on.

Was it a named BTAnemone? and how much was it?
Can you post a picture?

I bought it for $250 from Corals Anonymous. Its called a CA Ultra Galaxy Burst BT.
The other picture is the Rose BTA I got from a LFS for $50. Much more vibrant in person of course.
I'm pretty disappointed. My clownfish likes it though so... I suppose thats something.

Coral’s anonymous use photo filtering and heavy blues. IMO a bad vendor
Agreed.
Bought 2 mushrooms and 1 pectinia frag from these guys. All the coral I got from them isn't remotely the same color.

@maethuu there are a few hobbyists that grow some beautiful nems on these forums. If you're ever willing to try again, I'd shop around. Most of them will post pics of the nems in many light settings.

Hopefully your bta colors up though.

Even wysiwyg is questionable these days the way vendors are editing photos. In person the only way to know for sure what you are getting IMO

They’re not a bad vendor. Nearly all use lighting to exaggerate coloration. What you ordered based on the name is a common run of the mill rainbow bta.
Nems often look a bit worse after shipping. I wouldn’t pay $250 for a rainbow bta, but a lot of places charge that much. I’ve received many nice items from them. Always assume pics are taken with filters to bring out the best colors with all vendors.

If you want a pic under white lights, ask them for one.

Thet respond to light (photosynthesis) so may lose color temporarily. Goos acclimation gets them on the way to restoring zooxanthallae and return color and energy to their structure
