Shipped fish, how long can they last?

Have a pink barred goby and 2 porcelain crabs initially scheduled to be here about noon. 8.5 hours later still not here and not sure there gonna make it tonight.

Have your quarantine tank up and running with matching salinity. Then, as soon as this bags arrive, float for 15 min and then immediately release into the quarantine tank. Definitely don't drip acclimate and don't open the bags prior to releasing the fish.

Take pictures when the shipment arrives. You will need them to show the supplier. You should be reimbursed or they will give you credit if a good company.

Unfortunately FedEx will pay you nothing for the loss as live shipments are not guaranteed by them. The hope would be with your supplier and their policy.

You would think if they pay for express shipping and they don’t get it there on schedule they would be liable..

FedEx and UPS nixed their on-time delivery guarantees once COVID appeared.

I had a package lost by UPS for a week with no tracking update. A week later it's out for delivery again, gets to my house, and no delivery attempt is made. I get on my mountain bike and chase after the UPS truck.

Turns out it was delivered somewhere and some idiot had written "Does not live here" on the shipping label so the UPS guy just flagged it as having an incorrect address (despite the address being correct) without making an attempt to deliver it.

At the same time, my packages were sitting at the local FedEx depot getting "local weather exceptions" several consecutive days when it was 60 F, windless, and cloudless.

Tracker says it on truck at sorting station should be here this morning just hope the fish can last that long.

Another FedEx horror story. Note to vendors I personally will not buy from you if you use FedEx. My other vice is whiskey and nothing hurts more than getting a broken bottle of allocated or limited release which has happened with FedEx more than once. Never had a problem with UPS getting overnight fish and corals before noon next day. Mostly I order from CA. Shipped cross country to Florida.

FedEx just showed up, 24 hours late, amazingly the fish and crabs are still alive. Acclimating now…

Awesome they made it alive. Really depends on prevailing weather, oxygen content of the bag and how well the heating elements were packaged for fish survival from shipping.

They all seem to be fine. Crabs took all of 10 seconds to jump into anemones. Pinky moved around fine, somewhere in rocks now. Waiting to get a good pic.

I've had fish that were 48 hours in shipment that arrived fine. A lot depends on how they're packed.

Unfortunately, I'm also going through a FedEx screw up. My fish were shipped Monday for over night delivery. They arrived at the Memphis hub (2.5 hours from my house) Tuesday at 10:30 AM. According to the tracking program they are still there! After 3 days I finally got to talk to real person and they seem to have no idea when my package will be delivered!!!! Talk about incompetence!

I would have gladly driven to Memphis to get them if they would have let me!!

Complaining to FedEx via Facebook worked for me twice during the last holiday season when they just couldn't seem to get to the last leg of delivery.

FedEx was 30 hrs late in the delivery. Order had a Gem and Sailfin Tang. The sailfin survived but the Gem never ate and died short of two weeks later. Gem tangs are only guaranteed for DOA. FedEx doesn't even reimburse. I was not a happy camper!
