Shipping Fish

Hi. I will soon be moving from Ireland to northern Greece. I am looking for advice on shipping my fish, packaging etc. I have a Regal angel, Yellow Tang, Regal Tang, 2 Clown fish, a Royal Gramma and a Gobbie. We will have a red sea reefer 1000s set up on site and will be matured before I move. I have seen someone on youtube saying to acclimate the fish to temperature but put them straight in due to ammonia levels being lethal. Is this true? Also looking for advice on how I should pack them. We will be using DHL or UPS for shipping and my partner will collect from the airport.

I have no experience with this, but a good lfs does. Can you ask your lfs for help shipping? Be prepared to pay.

Get a small oxygen tank and a good supply of large bags. You’ll want to triple bag (reversing the direction of the bags each time). Depending on when you ship, small heat packs may also be needed. Make sure you get any customs stuff sorted out well in-advance.

Exactly as above. Use the biggest bags and water as you can. Stop feeding hours before unless they are more delicate fish. Fill bags with the 02. Take salinity and PH of the old tank so you can set up the new tank to match. (pH is not as important, but if you have buffer at the other end)

Needs to go overnight, may survive 2 day but will be dicey. Use insulated cooler inside a strong corrugated box. Once there match temp and get them in. Once you open the bag the ammonia will become toxic.

I have few options but to order fish online. With the exception of sources in central Alberta, all fish have taken two days to arrive. I've only lost one fish during transit, and that was in the middle of January when daily maximal temps were well below -20C.

Look at cryopak pcm and depending on weather to and from heat paks might be needed.

My last order was shipped like this, 5 bags of my order was in center and two large bags at either end was filled with just water which was to make all interior solid/ no space for movement, two heat packs on the top and insulation foil around all, all triple bagged, wishing your fishies and yourself safe travels

They will probably be too large to carry on. The max size of something with liquid is usually an issue. I wish you and the fish the best and hope all goes smoothly.
