I have a question for everyone. Years ago when I had my 90g I had a coral that I remember the store I bought it from calling it a frogspawn. Now I realize that's not what it was. It looked like a torch but the tentacles where only about 3/4" long at the most. Maybe shorter.

I know it wasn't that it was unhappy and not expanding, it grew like no other euphyllia I have ever owned, it doubled in size fairly quickly. It had pretty thick branches on it.

Forgive me I don't have a picture ATM, I'll try and dig out the photographs if I have any left.

Could it have been the grape coral that live aquaria has? I don't remember it having sweepers at all, especially not up to 6".

I know it wasn't a Galaxea. Galaxea is encrusting.

This was branching. It was identical to a torch but with really short tentacles.

I agree on the grape now that I found the picture.

It started out as about 5 heads.

I also have a grape. They looks like a short tentacle torch or short tentacle hammer. Since branching hammers do have different tentacle looks. Some wide like a hammer to just a bulb at the tip like a torch. The only difference is my grape actually has thinner diameter stalks than my other euphyllia. No branch stems thicker than my pinky.

On a side note galaxea is not an encruster. It makes a giant softball of its self. Frags may encrusted in beginning to secure itself. Like any stoney coral, except birdsnest.

Did not know that.

My grape was my favorite coral I had. Very fast grower. Guess I'll have to find me another one now.

May i chime in ... i have what I believe is a cristata, will it act like traditional long tentacled torches? Can I place hammers or frogspawn near or does it need a wide girth left between it and other corals?
