Is there such thing as that? I got a 12 head orange torch that was sold as a "short tentacle torch". Are there different care requirements? Anyway to make the tentacles longer?

There are short tentacles torchs and they are fairly new. But sorry don't know if they have different care levels

Have a picture? Some call grape coral a short tentacle torch. But as mentioned above it could also be a new variety. A few new euphyllia have been floating around.

These are the "torch"

Doesn't look like grapes i have seen or have. I think grapes have skinnier skeletons. Looks like a regular torch. Granted a bit shorter tentacles. It just may be a variety that has shorter ones.

The lower right skeleton/ polyp looks to me to have brown jelly. If it is better remedy it before you loose entire colony, in just a few days.

I noticed that too, should i just break that piece off? In that spot, It was a skeleton a few days ago.

If you can. Even if there is some flesh there now it will be gone by tomorrow. Once flesh is infected there is no reliable cure. If you remove the section. Do it out of the tank. When removing coral be sure no jelly falls off. It can infect something else.

After treatment watch it closely. Stress opens door to brown jelly. In a few days you can loose a dozen heads.

Well the thing is in that spot it was just a skeleton it had nothing there, until today it had that.

some closer shots

It is brown jelly. Shut off the water flow and take the coral out and take some pliers or bone cutters and cut it out. You can cut up and down wise just between the healthy head and unhealthy one. I myself would cut both off as brown jelly spreads very quickly with this LPS as the one that is touching it will probably get it anyway because it is so close. Better to lose those two then the entire coral.

Short tentacle ones have been around for 20 + years so it is more likely a sales tactic. Environmental factors can influence how long or short the tentacles grow. I have mine in high light so they tend to stay short. I have made lot's of frags from mine and in some people's tanks that have less light they have gone longer. Mine never have.

Thank you very much for the information, I will cut both of those heads off right now! So low light will "influence" long tentacle growth?

If it is doing well where it is leave I would leave it. From what I have seen lower light can influence but it is not guaranteed.

If you really want to move it, I would not say low light just lower. Like bottom but direct light (for MH or LED). If you have MH or LED middle tank off to the side works to.

Keep in mind to low the light and the color will fade.

Bumping this. That is a grape I believe. I had one a few years ago that I dearly miss. They have them on live aquaria also.

Here's the one I had

These look really similar to the Tonga Torch Corals that my LFS has. The longer polyp torches are Aussie Torches. I’m not sure the Indo Torches are available anymore.
