Hello!

After a month and half I'm done cycling my tank and I have added 3 fishes this week. I started off with dry rock and live sand, but I don't see algae. Do I wait until I see algae before adding a clean up crew? Or do I add them now to prevent any algae growth? I'm worried that they will starve and have no food to eat. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you!

Absolutely! I'd recommend getting a small amount to start with as you want to make sure they don't starve from lack of detritus and algae. I'd recommend a 50/50 mix of snails and crabs.

That’s a lot of hermits. Get a mix of snails, 3 nassarius, 5+ trochus, 2 turbo/margaritas, then maybe 3-5 blue leg hermit crabs.

Unless you really like crabs, I'd keep the crabs on the low. Hermit crabs can and will kill some of your snails even when well fed - I personally have many hermit crabs and they've killed several snails despite me feeding very heavily. Best snail overall are cerith snails imo. For algae eating it has to be Trochus, and for cost effectiveness in bulk has to be Astarea.
