Looks like my cycle is finished right at 3 weeks. Ammonia and nitrite are at zero and nitrate is high. Before doing my water change and adding a couple clowns, should I dose the ammonia back up to about 4 and see how quickly it goes down?

4 ppm is way too high, imo. If you want to see if the tank can process ammonia, 1 ppm in 24 hours should be good enough.

No need to redose here, begin.

do a large water change so u have less algae fuel.

reasons u can safely begin:

have met the timeframes on both bottle bac directions and cycling charts for ammonia control, and ammonia is the only cycling param that matters, the other two don’t.

you have dosed or imported a known source of bac to be able to move that much initial ammonia down, moving it down more than once isn’t required, the bac are attached now to rocks and sand per Dr Reefs bottle bac time study thread.

Sounds a bit backwards adding ammonia imo.
