Just got this new maxima and gave him a FW dip to make sure no Pyramid snails but his “mouth” looks like this. My other clam doesn’t seem so pronounced. Should I be concerned?

It looks to me like the middle area of the mantle is clear/translucent. The maxima that I just had die had this until it finally passed.
I saw that as well but the clam closes fully it reacts to light normally it’s just that open spot that is odd to me. Otherwise it looks and acts “normal”

perhaps it is a crocea clam? I know their intake syphons are much larger? clams give me anxiety idk why I love them so much haha

That is an extremely stressed Maxima. He may not make it. FWD is NOT a treatment for Pyramid snails, so if he survive this episode, you still need to QT and treat him for Pyramid snails still. FWD definitely is stressful for the animal, I would not do it unless I determine that my clam has PMD.
All you can do is cross your fingers, and toes ans whatever else and hope for the best. That and provide optimal light flow and water condition. Good luck

agree 1000%. Too much dipping and dosing in this hobby nowadays, and then ask questions later

So just for clarification I have kept clams forever and rarely loose them. 10 min RO/DI dip and they r good. Ive never struggled with it. But Ive never had a clam gape that wide after before.

UPDATE: Clam is totally fine intake syphon normal and mantle open up beautifully no discoloration at all. looks like he was just purposely terrifying me while he was acclimating. I do believe it is a crocea the shell doesn't look like a maxima to me

From the pictures in this thread, the clam seem to be a Maxima. If you can post a current picture, not stressed or sick, It would be relatively easy to ID him. I am glad he is doing much better.
Still need to watch him for Pyramid snails. Here is my write up on how to eradicate Pyramid snails.

How I deal with Pyram snails, the Giant Clam parasitic snails.

That is clearly a Maxima. Scutes can be break off. The elongated shape of the shell is very typical for Maxima, along with the coloration and the roll of eye spots on peripheral of the mantle.
