Should I buy a Par Meter

Assuming for those that don’t have apex . This will not help ?
No it won't. It connects to the Apex and then you can monitor you par just like you monitor other parameters on you phone via Apex fusion.

Fragbox Corals, in Toronto will rent that to you.
Hey: Finally called them, and had to send email. They will rent an Apogee need $500 deposit, have it for a week, and then end up paying $120. They cant get one for purchase from their supplier. Alternative is an Apogee dealer in Oakville got a quote from them. The quote works out the same not padded $ 729 Hoskin Scientific. Thanks for your time

I would love to rent one but not doable for me. Not available
BRS rents them by the week. They ship it to you and give you a paid return label to send it back. I think it's like $79 bucks or so. There is a hefty deposit that you get back when returned.

They do the open box sales now. They are sold at a discount. If you just want to use them and then return them, there is a "re-stocking fee" ( or rental fee) of $80, plus postage and sales tax's that apply.

Oh, really, that's new then. Me and a buddy bought one together. But before we did we looked into it and the rental was the deal. Good to know. Thanks.

I looked for a rental/link on their website and never could find it.
Then the open box model showed up with the explanation of the return/re-stocking fee.
I asked them about the open box ones, about how many times they come in and go out before someone keeps them. They said they didn't keep that info (?).
I do know if a person wanted to grab one of the open box ones, they need to act just as soon as they see it in stock.
They go fast.

Oh sure. The open box one has probably been returned a hundred times. Think of the money they make on just one par meter.

I checked with BRS. They wont rent them outside of the US. Probably not to Alaska, or Hawaii either at a guess. Said it was too expensive. I bit the bullet, and bought an Apogee from a authorized distributor here, as well as the wand, and communication cable. Waiting for arrival

Yeah, I got the notification the Open Box one was back in stock while there were no new ones in stock.
So I figured that the "new rental idea" they have was back.

I ended up buying one ( mq-510) from amazon. Kind of glad I did.
Gives me a much better idea what kind of par my CoralCare gen 2 fixtures are putting out.
I'm not worried about it laying around gathering dust. It would sell if I discounted it a little. People are always looking for a bargain
What kind of par are you getting from the gen 2s? I am running 3 over my 150 and have yet to map the par

I just looked at my highest corals and the sand bed.
On my softy tank running a pretty blue program with the lights at about 12" from the waters surface and 6"-8" down I was getting about 270 with the intensity at 65%.
Near the sand bed ( 25" down) it was about 100-125 depending on how far out from the center of the fixture. I'm only using 2 fixtures on the 6' tank

On my lps tank the light are at 10" from the water and going down 6"-8" I got around 300-310 par running at 75% intensity with the same blue program.
On the sand bed 20" down I got about 160-180 depending center vs edge.
