I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this. Any Red Sea owners care to talk me in or out of it? Have there been leaks on this model?

I had a nano tank with a rear sump for a year and decided I enjoyed the hobby enough to get myself the reefer250. I took the plunge and I'm so happy I did. Especially as someone newer to the hobby, it's nice being able to find pretty much every answer for the reefer that I google. (my thinking was If you use the cheaper smaller brands you're less likely to find help online)

I love my reefer 250. It's very well thought out, looks amazing and has not disappointed me in any way yet. If I could go back in time I probably would have just gone for the 350 since it would last longer

I have the Red Sea Reefer 170. The only regret I have is not going bigger, but I feel everyone has that ;)
The Red Sea tanks are great, very good quality and easy to set up. There's plenty of space to set it up like you want and choose your own equipment. That's why I went with mine and don't have any regrets (besides the size maybe). Good luck choosing your new tank!

As a previous owner I would say no. The tank itself is decent apart from the not so attractive silicone seems but the stand/cabinet is utter crap. Cheap ikea like quality that doesn’t handle moisture very well.
The plumbing is also brittle as heck and they use some proprietary stuff that won’t match with standard piping (at least not European standard).
I feel that when you pay a premium you should get a premium product all the way through.

Also have a 250, would love to upgrade to a 350. Bought it used and even after taking a chip out of it it has held up great. Like all the room in the sump, 350 is even better with the extra storage, enjoy!

You the plumbing will crack?

I have a 250 and love it. Only regret is not getting a 350. As you can see my 250 is way full

XL 300 owner. I just wanted to pop in and say not to ignore the XL 425. :) Same length, but that extra width is amazing for scape depth. Plus, 15g extra in the display!

But, in general. I love my Reefer. No complaints (other than the obvious ATO, but I knew that going in).

Woah! I did not get that experience at all. I'm sure your right about the plumbing not fitting but the fact the pipes came assembled and glued to just snap on was a huge indicator to me that the product was high quality, they felt like thick sturdy pipes.

The cabinet weighs a tonne and not full of air gaps like IKEA wood is. Those inserts to stop you stripping the threads in the cabinet, the rubber plugs over the metal was also a nice touch. The only similarity was that it was flat packed but that's just to save you a fortune in shipping but the wood itself felt heavy and well made, the corners were super clean unlike IKEA corners and the entire product was very easy to assemble.

When did you get your red sea?

The plumbing is actually fairly low quality, thin, brittle and easy to crack if you over tighten it slightly.

The stand is made out of chipboard (I believe that’s the correct term) which is cheap material that easily swells if any water leaks in to a joint.

I got the tank about 2,5 years ago maybe.
I’m not saying that it’s a bad pice of kit I just don’t think the build quality matches the price.

Agreed. I would never buy again. Plumbing leaks..
Tanks is fine, needs a better stand.

I had a Red Sea and The valve is garbage and stand is just ok. I didn’t feel like it was worth what they cost brand new. The overflow box feels dated. The sump could be better. The ATO connector became brittle eventually.

I think with waterbox and Innovative Marine on the market now. It is time for Red Sea to update their tanks. Smaller overflows, actual ball valves and such would go a long way for a more modern product.

I have a redsea 750xxl. Bought it used. Had to go through some hassel to get the brace kit. Agree the cabinet could be better. If I was buying a new tank I would get a CADE. Waterbox would be my second choice. You can change the metric plumbing to US standard with an adapter, so I wouldn't be concerned about that.

I bought my 250 used, so was happy with it for the price. I'm already looking for a bigger tank and am eying other brands besides Red Sea for my new purchase. Don't get me wrong, its a good quality tank for what I paid for it. But I think for the price of a new setup there must be better options. If you can find one used from someone upsizing for a good price though they are very nice. I don't share others thoughts about the quality of the stand, its much better than Ikea quality.

Wanna buy me one ?
I would love too but I’m broke. It was a package deal for 7,500.
