hey everyone, my tank has had some issues recently and I think the salt may be the cause. I was having lots of issues keeping alkalinity stable through dosing so I quit and everything started doing so much better. For about 4 months everything grew and flourished with elevated levels from just a 20% water change each week( I have been using instant ocean regular btw). I got lazy on testing and alkalinity got down to around 5.8dkh. Everything with exception of a few lps looked fine, just not growing. Magnesium was also about 1150. I have been trying to raise magnesium and alkalinity but cant get the magnesium to any number over 1200(using aquavitro ions). Since I can't keep the magensium up I cant keep alkalinity stable. Getting it anywhere over 6.7 is impossible and the swings are causing tissue recession in lps, however sps including all acros are totally fine. Should I change my magnesium supplement or change the salt or both? thanks

IMO, IO is the best salt on the market. Even if somebody wants to disagree, it is not the salt that is your problem. I would look elsewhere.

Edit: go and search for Dr. Randy Holmes-Farley article(s) on magneisum and also his 3 part papers. You can use epsom salt or other household stuff to raise magnesium and it will tell you how and I think that there is a calculator on there. Make sure that you have good test kits. I have never found IO to be mag deficient.
