So I'm breaking in a new classic BH-90 and it's been running for 7 days. There is a layer of muck so thick I can't see through it in the body and going up into the collection cup. My question is should I clean it or leave it be? They say two weeks before it's doing any adjusting. Thx in advance

I would just clean out the head. I clean mine about once a week just the top but yours looks to have too much water might need a little adjusting or wait another week before twerking but can still clean the top

The cup gets emptied and cleaned about every 3-5 days. The pump gets cleaned when I notice it's getting clogged. Then I clean my skimmer body about once a year.

Thx for the reply the water level is at the "T" on the left hand side there the valve is. The first few days the bubble level would fluctuate and now that is where it has stayed for the last couple of days. Thx

Seems like a lot of runny stuff, you can get thicker if you dial it down but up is runnier

That two week period is because sometimes you don't get skimmate at all right away. It sometimes takes about that long for a biofilm to cover the skimmer and normal bubble behavior. :)

You're obviously past that break-in stage.

Clean that filthy skimmer! ;) :)

Runnier (aka wet skimming) has the advantage of removing more gunk and keeping the skimmer working at optimal efficiency longer between cleanings.

Looks like it's really kicking burr, actually!

There's no "correct" way to tune a skimmer, BTW. If it's putting waste into the cup, it's skimming correctly.

It's true about keeping the skimmer staying cleaner with wet-skimming though.

So I set mine as "wet" as possible so that it fills the skimmer cup about every day or every week. Whatever corresponds with your maintenance cycle is what I'd use.

When you get to your final tuning, make small changes no more than once a day. And make those changes based on the quality of skimmate produced vs how the skimmer is bubbling at the moment.

Hope this helps! :)
