Should I clean out my biocube's mechanical filter.

Okay I was looking at my filter and noticed in the mechanical filter was dirty and covered in gunk. So do I leave it or clean it out or just replace with new filters? Also, I've been told that the chemi pure bag should be replaced every 6 months but I read somewhere 3. What's your thoughts?

I would clean it in the tank water you pull out for a water change. Just rinse of the debris. If you keep the same filter clean, you won't lose the beneficial bacteria.

Clean all the filter media this way to keep it from producing a lot of nitrates from the debris. I don't use carbon so I don't know about the chemipure.
