Should I dose fluconazole or hydrogen peroxide for my algae problem?

Here’s a link to my other thread about my tank if you’d like to read but I need to figure out which method of dosing I should go with to get rid of this algae.

What kind of algae do you think this is?

My tank has been running for more than 4 months now but I have always had this type of algae coming and going. It looks like green hair algae but I’m not sure if hats what it is. Any idea? It has been in my tank for more than a month and it won’t go away. What’s the best way to remove it for...

I was thinking of using the hydrogen peroxide and black out method because it is the safest method instead of using Fluconazole as treatment. I’m not entirely sure if I have Dino or Bryopsis or just really bad hair algae. Here are some pics of my rock and algae. Please suggest which version of treatment you would use in my case. Hydrogen peroxide with a 5 day blackout or Fluconazole? Also how many doses for each would I need to do? Thanks! And happy holidays!

Haha yes I posted another thread about it yesterday so it may have been mine you looked at. I just want to be certain of which treatment to use so that’s why I posted again today. Sorry if it’s annoying, just want to be sure. What do you think it is? Just bad hair algae?

I think it might be hair algae with dinos growing on it. But there were some pretty good ID’s and a link to a similiar outbreak in that other thread if I remeber well.

Looks like my tank. My guess is GHA with cyano on top of it. My tank is also 4 months old. I used chemiclean for the cyano and now the cuc can work on the GHA (while I try to figure out the nutrient issue)

Use Chemiclean. It works great if you follow the instructions. I would recommend it to anyone. Also BRS has a video on Chemiclean. Check it out. They even sell it at Petco

Right I will take a look at it again and will have to weigh my options. Which would you do if you were in my situation? Fluconazole or hydrogen peroxide with a black out? I feel like the peroxide is a safer option and will work better but I’m just not sure. I want to act quick but I don’t want to chose the wrong option. I do have corals in the tank so which is best for corals?

I don’t know honestly. I don’t believe in peroxide, and although I have flucanozole on the shelf, I haven’t used it yet - so I can’t tell a honest opinion about that.
IMO a meaningful blackout would need 4-8 weeks at least as I’ve experienced it, and the corals are probably more sensitive for light deficiency than algae is (they die before the algae does). I could mention other products, but I’ve found them mostly to be snake oil, so.. Sorry, I really can’t give a “this will work for sure” solution.

That’s totally fine, I just figured I’d ask and see what your opinion was on this, thanks anyway! Right I guess I’ll do a small black out if I go with that option.

This is just some of my coral. All are out and open. I just dosed Chemiclean on Wednesday Dec 18,2019 and shut my lights off 48 hours exactly. I have no issues with any of my coral. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I’m guessing you had the same type of algae as the one in my tank? Or something similar?

I have threads where we assemble cures over and over and we do have some co expressions like yours (more than one invader same time)

In our method, we're never going to dump random things or take random actions. We strictly take action on a single test rock, make it zero algae using special means, and put it back in the tank and change nothing, watch it for two weeks

When proven works, we upscale to whole tank and add another cure work example to the rolling threads. Wanna fix your tank thoroughly and do it right? Lemme know

Our way won't blend with other ways though, you have to take apart your whole tank and clean it before you begin, so most people opt out and opt into guessing/ dosing corals with various meds though they're not the problem etc

The reason we have so many algae challenge tanks in the hobby is due to information being circulated that causes it vs cures it consistently

The reason we have several examples of fixing tanks like yours is because we do the reverse of what causes tank loss and we're not guessing with options
