My 24 gal nano has been setup since January and it mainly consists of zoas, mushrooms, gsp, 1 acan and a goniapora. For the most part all my zoas are healthy and growing, but of late I noticed a few polyps wilting and the skirts shrinking. My Cal,Mag, Alk and salinity have all been consistant since day one. 420, 1400, 9, 1.024. I'm curious why some polyps wilt and there skirts shrink in, when 90% of the other polyps are fully open and super happy? Just wondering if my tank may be lacking Iodine since I never tested for Iodine?

I have a 29 with many types of LPS, I add 1 drop weekly to the tank. I use Lugols.

If you do weekly/bi weekly water changed you shouldnt dose iodine, iodine in aquariums aren't a major necessity in the tank. The salt should be able to supply that is water changes are regular. Depending on the type of zoa is could not be getting enough light or either receiving to much. Also try target feeding the corals if you have time? feed once a week by target feeding frozen foods such as mysis shrimps or rodifers then let all the pumps/power heads sit off for an hr or so then do a water change afterwards.

Zoa's melt period. Especially without reason. Don't feel bad. My tanks been stable for 2yrs and I can't keep a zoa alive for nothing. While others have wonderful healthy colonies. Go figure?!
There's no need to dose iodine.

Thanks for the replys. I do weekly water changes around 4 gal. at a time using Tropic Marine Pro salt. I may try cutting the water change down to about 2 gal.
Weekly. I have 2 hermit crabs that disturb different polyps daily and I think some are more effected by them then others. I do have problem keeping Ricordia mushrooms, but other mushrooms are no problem.
